NEW COLUMBUS FACILITY TO BE BUILT FOR TOYOTA INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT

COLUMBUS, INToyota Industrial Equipment (TIE), the sales, service and marketing arm for Toyota forklifts, is constructing its new branch office and National Training Center in Woodside South Industrial Park near Columbus, Indiana. The $1.3 million building will be located west of Interstate 65, close to Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing (TIEM). TIEM builds almost 95 percent of the forklifts Toyota sells in the United States each year, with many of their parts also supplied by U.S. suppliers. The new facility is scheduled to open in December, 1997.

The 30,000 square foot building will be built to Toyota's specifications. Ten-thousand square feet will be dedicated to its National Training Center, which will feature state-of-the-art training equipment. The branch office will house TIE's field parts and service managers, technical services, warranty administration, distribution order processing and local Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (TMCC) field associates. Approximately 30 people will work in the facility.

"Toyota Industrial Equipment is celebrating its 30th anniversary of selling and servicing forklifts in the United States," said TIE Group Vice President and General Manager Richard Gallio. "This new facility will be a valuable asset in making our sales and service process even better. It is near the plant, which will help maintain daily communications and it is close to the majority of our customers, which will help improve customer service. Additionally, the high-caliber training conducted at the National Training Center will help our dealer associates address the challenges they face in the marketplace."

Toyota has already made a large commitment to Indiana. TIEM was established in 1988 and represents a $76 million investment. Also, a $700 million T100 pickup truck manufacturing plant is under construction in Gibson County.

"We know Columbus is a great place to live and work," said Columbus Mayor Fred Armstrong. "We're glad companies like Toyota are recognizing the strengths of our community and are choosing to build here."

Toyota Industrial Equipment markets and distributes various classes of internal combustion and electric-powered forklifts in the U.S. The forklifts are sold through nearly 90 dealers with over 160 outlets throughout the country. Toyota dealers offer comprehensive customer support programs that include a one-stop shop for parts, factory-trained service technicians, and finance programs through Toyota Motor Credit Corporation, one of the largest financing corporations in the country.
